J.F. Echavarria

Juan Francisco Echavarria was born in Chile and immigrated to the US at age 22 in 1869. He lived and worked in San Jose, California for the duration of his life and produced silverwork for many other makers including LD Stone, Main and Winchester, H. Messing and Sons, Clarence Nelso, Visalia Stock and Saddlery, and F.S. Johnson. Echavarria produced complete bits and spurs for some of these companies as well as doing piece work such as conchos and silver engraving on pieces already made. His work is extremely high quality and he developed several unique motifs that later became popular with others. His pieces are sometimes marked J.ECHAVARRIA SAN JOSE, occasionally with a pattern or item designation.
